This question has cropped up a number of times over the last few weeks and initially all I could think of was Davina McCall and her show 'This Time Next Year.' I watched one episode where a woman said 'This time next year Davina I want to find love,' I thought, don't be so ridiculous, you'll end up dating any random person and you'll come across so depressed you'll never find love.' 12 months later she's back on the show and as the doors open there she is standing there... alone. :-(
She had tried all the dating apps you can think of and went on many dates but couldn't find love, instead went on an unexpected journey. Over the 12 months she had transformed as a person. Her confidence had grown, she had learnt to love herself and she no longer felt like she needed someone else to complete her life. She had grown as a person and to me this is what success looks like...
How many times have you set out to achieve a goal, yet ended up achieving so much more than you expected and not necessarily the original goal you had planned on achieving? (I hope that makes sense!)
Every day I do something that is going to motivate me, keep me positive and in the right mind-set, whether that’s writing in my journal, watching a motivational clip, (at the moment I am loving ‘Daretogrowuk’ Lisa Bean, which is where I heard this question again today!) or exercising, I know these daily activities are helping me achieve my long term goal. I also think it’s vital you listen to your body. I work full time, have a busy life outside of work and am a single mum, so if I’m exhausted I won’t be too hard on myself if I have an early night as recovery is just as important.
For me personally it takes on average 3 months of consistent activity for something to become a habit… What is your mind-set ‘habit’ that is assisting you in achieving your goal?
Back to the title question! What do you want to be celebrating 12 months from now?
If you are having difficulty in answering this question, like I am, just continue investing in your personal development and developing your mind-set, (I already knew this but when you hear it from someone else it has more of an impact and you feel reassured that you’re doing the right thing, thank you Lisa Bean!) Remember the goal you may have originally planned might not be your final destination but with consistent, personal development you will be taken on an unexpected pleasant journey. Now ask yourself ‘This Time Next Year Davina I want to be celebrating …?
